For years there have been natural remedies and in cases of Acid Reflux, Heartburn and GERD there have been a few popular choices of home remedy some of which are apple cider vinegar, peppermint tea, papaya enzymes, slippery elm bark and probiotics.

Apple Cider vinegar:

This is one of the most popular choices when it comes to natural remedies for GERD, but the claims that it can neutralise stomach acid are completely unfounded. The tests done have indicated that it can cause a placebo effect, but it some cases it could make the problem worse. Also it can damage your tooth enamel and burn your esophagus as it is made with high levels of ethnic acid.

Peppermint Tea:

If you are suffering from GERD you should stay away from peppermint tea, though a lot of people still use it. Tests have shown that it causes low pressure in the lower esophageal sphincter and less pressure means more stomach contents in the esophagus which will cause you more pain.

Probiotics:

Probiotics are the good bacteria in the digestive tract, they can be found in yogurt and some other food stuffs and also some specialised health drinks as well as that probiotics are being added to more and more foods. Though they do not have a strong foot-hold in the treatment of GERD but they have proved to be effective in the treatment of yeast infections, thrush and antibiotic induced diarrhea.
